Getting There

Travelers to Mount Kilimanjaro typically fly into Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania or Nairobi, Kenya.  or, Tanzania, and then take a shuttle service to the city of Arusha which is the city of Mount Kilimanjaro.  Getting is shuttle from the airport is fairly easy as many local tour operators offer shuttles between both airports and Arusha.  However it is recommended that bus and shuttle rides be booked in advance. 

For international travelers, its generally cheaper to fly into Nairobi.  The shuttles from Nairobi to Arusha are approximately $20pp.  While one can pick up a shuttle at the airport, it is recommended that the shuttle be pre-booked.  Alternately, travelers into Nairobi can take a 1 hour flight on Air Kenya to Arusha.  The airfare is about $220 one way, and $400 round trip.  Once the flight lands at JRO airport, a short shuttle ride to Arusha or Moshi  will cost approximately $20pp  one way.

If you are landing  in Dar es Salaam, you can make your way to Arusha either by plane or bus.  The flight to Arusha is approximately 1hr and costs $160pp one way.  If you opt for the bus ride, the journey is about 9hrs and costs about $20pp one way. 

If you are arriving directly to JRO then you can take a taxi to Arusha at the cost of about $70. The drive takes about 45 minute.
